PROJECT TITLE
A study of costructing ceramics made on the basis of glass-carbon as transplant material in human organisms
Summary
The materials used for the moving elements of cardiac valves are to correspond to a number of requirements, and must not have higher mechanical qualities, but also certain electrical properties, being designed to into direct contact with the blood stream within human organisms. These extremely important requirements are characteristic of the materials in the system of glass-carbon.From the technological layer against the basic ceramic material.During the preliminary studies of our team some good composite ceramic materials were obtained on the basis of glasscarbon with approapriate structure and high qualities of the physical and mechanical properties. The purpose of this study is to determine the basic biological features of this type of material, such as antithrombogeneity, toxicity, and cancerogeneity, having in mind the specific application of the material. The high precision studies are to be carries out by means of long-term departments of the Higher Medical Institute in Sofia. In the process of these tests, check ups shall include also eventual changes in the blood test results and the blood supply of the test animals. The results of the tests are going to determine the opportunities of using the studied semiconductor ceramics on the basis of glasscarbon in manufacturing the moving members of the cardiac valves thus providing an apportunity of a higher lavel of fruit-bearing research and economic co-operation with the respective research units and specialized meanufacturing companies abroad.
